Possible New Features?


Hey, I was running through the program and was thinking about some things that I don't know if they are already implemented into the program:

1st: I saw invis characters, but what if a character has detect invisibility? Or an invisible character makes a noise (fails move silently check). Is there a way to make that invis character 'visible' to only certain players (maybe ones who were 'listening' or DM's choice?) If not is it possible to put something of that nature in?

2nd: Sac'ing corpse, now I know everyone has there own way to deal out loot and get gear from corpses. But is there a way to grant limited control/access of creatures/npc's/players/etc. to other players? The purpose would be to take items off of there dead bodies. This might even work for pick pocket maybe (not letting a player know that they have been pick pocketed adds to the element of the 'unknown' and 'mystery' of the game emoticon)

3rd: A sleep button. I've always found it difficult to calculate everyones differen't sleep cycles and how much HP they regen every day. Could there not just be a button that will turn the fog of war back on the map (so no one can see), set the vision to "1" and calculate hp restored for sleeping? Possible activiating the sleep button would also "lock" characters from moving temporarly (I know there is a button for this already, but a lazy shortcut, for us lazy guys :P)

I think that was it, I'll get back to you on all of this stuff :P.

1: invis
well... i never thought about making the invis work on a per-char basis... in fact, in 3 years of playing, i think i can only remember this situation arising once.. and that was about a month ago. To do this, i would need a mechanism for telling it which player can see it... i'll add it to my list of things to do for 7.1

2:loot
planning to do "loot bag's" in 7.1 where once you kill something, his possessions are left in a little bag on the ground.

3:sleep button
well, this might cause some problems for some GMs... for instance, when my players rest, i don't re-fog the area... or stop them from moving... they just heal their 1 point per level, re-commit memorizd spells and we're off and running again.

Setting the vision back to 1 is something i only do when changing maps, because it's such a pain to raise it back again. in 7.1, you will have the capability of selecting multiple icons at once, and raising it back at once for them all, but in 7, with single selection, it takes too long.

Individual GMs will do things different, so i try not to 'lock them in' so to speak on certain things...

Ok, here are some new ideas I was thinking about (just tell me when to shut up :P)

1: individual text windows between players and the DM. Purpose would be for individual communication with out interference from dialogues from other players. For example : PLAYER A ask a NPC what he is offering at his establisment (an Inn for examples sake). The GM/DM would then load the prewritten dialogue and allow that the character to communicate freely and unhindered from other players. That way text wont be scrolled passed and it'll give a singal player the option to thoroughly read what is presented to him.
Maybe this could also have the ability to load a mini map, so if Player A wants to go into a building alone, he could.

2: Maybe some sort of clock that can be slown down or sped up by the DM. Purpose for a clock (no relevance for day time/night time all though it could if you wanted it to) would be easily keep track of SubDuel damage healed over x amt. of time and/or spell effects. I understand that the honor system is in affect and that generally players should keep track of there own happenings (with big brother DM watching over their shoulder) but might be a useful tool, if it's not too hard to code in ;P

3. The program supports jpeg and bmp, but what about letting it support animated gif's? Purpose could be for animated icons (horse galaoping in place to represent a horse and carage or travel by animal) Icon of a Smith - smithing iron. Just eye candy really, but I'm sure if you dig enough you'll discover it might have some really nice application in certain campaigns.

4. I noticed the "freeze" button. But what about an individual "freeze" button? Purpose would be to stop a character from accidently moving when they are not suppose to..

5. Have a day and night function. Day leaves the map bright and normal, but the night button would add a dark image on top of the map (adobe photoshop - just use a purple or black image with the opacity dropped to like 50% to make it somewhat translucent). Again just eye candy, and another frivilous idea to encumber you by and pack the Dm's control pannel :P.

1:individual text windows
well, 2 problems
1 is space...
and the second is from experience... this is very much related to whispering... at first i didnt' include a whisper function on purpose. i added it later because so many requested it... but here's my story:
ran a game once, with individual chat windows, using POW-WOW software... as soon as i said round 1, everyone went into private mode and started telling me what they were doing. i don't know what they were thinking... the game died that night... everyone got mad! they couldn't tell what was going on, because there was no way little ol' me could 'retype' everything that the others were saying. I have since grown to hate whispering. It leaves other players in the dark as to what one player is doing or saying. now there are rare instances when it needs to stay between teh GM and player, but for the most part, MORE info is better.

I got burned like that once... !

2:Clock
have something like that planned in 7.1. The gm will have the ability to advance time, and spells will expire and remove themselves on their own.

3:GIFs
DirectX does NOT support GIF files. Don't ask me why! JPGs, BMPs and Tiff's only... it doesn't even have a mechanism for loading GIF's into memory.

4: individual freeze
it would be really rare to need to freeze one person... unless you wnat to enforce hold persons and paralysis...
I put the freeze all button for the purpose of stopping the players dead in their tracks when they got somehwere where i needed to describe something.
in order to stop a single person, while not stopping the others, you'd have to select his icon... might make it difficult to use...

5:day and night
Already done in 7.1! In addition, i have added animated rain, snow, clouds and lightning.

A feature that dawned on me last night: automatic server function, where it would run the server software when the Host button is clicked.

no can do...

the thing would have no way of knowing if you were working where you had the server already running on another computer or not...

or if the server had already been started on your own machine...

having 2 servers running on the same machine would produce "erratic" results...

Mkay, here's another idea...

I was messing around with some new sound files and items I got from a friend of a friend *wink*, and I thought how interesting it would be if I could have a map with certain NPC's in position on the map just by clicking a load map button. There is already a feature like that, but if characters are on the map, they are removed from the screen and need to be reloaded. In 7.1 is it possible to design a load scene option? Characters/players will stay but old NPC's will be wiped from the map, and the new NPC's that are already pre-set on the scene will be loaded. This would be to save time and help with keeping ideas consistant with the original design.


**NOTE** I didn't test to see if characters are removed if you "load saved game", just tested NPC's I'm just assuming that it will load everything that belongs on the map, and remove everything that dosn't belong on the map. So if this is already a feature, sorry.

you ARE correct. loading a game will wipe the players out along with the NPCs...

and in 7.1, i'm planning on having a load game and a load 'scene' button... which will do exactly what you talked about. wipe out the NPCs, leave the PCs alone, and essentially allow the gm to load new scenes pre-populated with the badguys or city folk...

Only you could design a program that allows DM's not to wear clothes while they play *yay*
  

BTW, when is 7.1 due to come out? So many delicious features I can't wait much longer!!!! :P

ha! i figured, sooner or later, you were gonna ask "are we there yet?"

i'm giving myself a wide berth of about 11 months. This new version is so much more complex than the last...

plus... i have a day job... so i can only write when i've got free time, and the mood is right.
